About

What is Hope In Depression? Hope in Depression is a course over 6 sessions, designed to support people suffering from depression and anxiety. We will look at what depression is, possible causes, and ways to deal with and manage the symptoms. There will be talks on brain function and medication, talking therapies, food and mood, wellness and exercise.

Who is Hope In Depression for? It is for anyone who lives with episodes of depression and/or anxiety, and anyone who is supporting or living alongside them.

How is Hope In Depression run? The course is run with live speakers and/or filmed talks, and with discussions in small groups. Each short talk is given by an experienced practitioner in their particular field (psychiatrist, counsellor, nutritionist etc). During small group time we will discuss what has been shared, and there will be an opportunity for individual sharing and questions.

How much does the course cost? The cost of the course workbook and resources is £20, and a donation of £30 is requested towards costs. We wouldn’t want cost to stop you from attending, so please do contact Barry, who runs our course, on 07831 224613 or hidc.gu@gmail.com if this might be the case. Your well-being is our focus.

What happens during the evening? The course begins with a light meal or snack at 7pm each evening. This also allows for an informal time together with course facilitators and an introduction to the Speaker(s) for the evening, as well as for catching up on the previous week. The first talk begins at 7:30pm and there will be a short break at around 8.30pm. Each session will conclude at about 9:30pm.

Where and when do we meet? The Hope in Depression course will be run here at church (St. Saviours Guildford, GU1 4QD) beginning at 7pm.

The course will take place on Mondays, starting on 13th May. Dates are: 13th & 20th May and 3rd, 10th, 17th & 24th June.

Do I need to do anything before the course starts?
To ensure a safe and confidential environment, participants will also need to complete a confidentiality agreement (see below)  before the first session. Please return it to hidc.gu@gmail.com or bring it with you to the first session.
