Christmas

Christmas is nearly here!

Here is all you’ll need to know about services at St. Saviour’s this festive period.

All are welcome at all of our services! Unless indicated below, we won’t be running separate groups for children, but the services designed with children in mind are the Family Carols, 4pm Traditional Carols, the Christingle and the 10:30am Christmas Day service. None of our services are ticketed, so feel free to just turn up! We’re really looking forward to seeing you there.

Please note that there is no 9am service this Sunday (10th Dec)!

Big Family Christmas Service | Sun 10th Dec at 10:30am

A fun interactive all age Christmas celebration! Come along with your small shepherds, angels, animals, Marys, Josephs, wise men & women, to our service – full of Christmas carols, games, and festive merriment. This service will be suitable for children of all ages – 0-99 – and will last for approximately 50 minutes. This service will not be live streamed.

Contemporary Carols | Sun 10th Dec at 6pm

Join us for a carol service with a twist as we’re led in creative carol arrangements by our fantastic band, performance pieces, a Christmas message, and all sorts of festive joy! This will replace the normal 6pm evening service. Please note that there will be no children’s provision at this service, but all are welcome. We will be live streaming this service.

Morning Communion | Sun 17th Dec at 9am

Join us for a traditional service at 9am, with hymns, prayers, a talk and Communion. We will be live streaming this service.

Traditional Carols | Sun 17th Dec at 4pm & 7pm

Our Traditional Carol services are not to be missed! Our St. Saviour’s Christmas choir and orchestra, conducted by the wonderful Jonathan Veira, will lead some of our best-loved carols, alongside traditional Bible readings and a short talk. Our 4pm service will be family friendly, and we’d love to see you there. We would love for you to invite friends to one of our two services, as we once again prepare to celebrate Christmas together! We will be live streaming one of these services.

Christingle | Sun 24th Dec at 4pm

Our Christingle service is open to all with a special welcome to families with younger children. It will be informal, interactive and with carols, crafts, and lots of Christmas cheer. This service will last approximately 45 minutes and will not be live streamed.

Midnight Communion | Sun 24th Dec at 11pm

In the middle of the hustle and bustle of Christmas Eve, this reflective and traditional Communion service gives the opportunity to take a deep breath, to be still, and to focus our attention on the story of Jesus’ birth. We sing traditional carols, hear readings and a short talk, and share communion together. Entering the church on the 24th, we walk out into Christmas day!

Christmas Communion | Sun 25th Dec at 8am

A traditional communion service for the earlybirds on Christmas morning. This service will last about 45 minutes.

Christmas Celebration | Mon 25th Dec at 10:30am

Come and join our Christmas day extravaganza! Our morning Christmas celebration is designed for all ages to enjoy together, so there will be something for everyone as we celebrate the birth of Jesus together, with carols and a short talk as well as lots of festive fun. We will be live streaming this service.

New Years Eve | Sun 31st Dec at 10:30am

Join us on the last day of 2023 as we take stock and prepare for what God has in store for us in 2024. Our congregations are joining together for one Communion service at 10:30am. Please note that there won’t be any children, youth or Trekkers provision at this service. We will be live streaming this service.

Christmas Charities:

This year, we will be taking donations for Tearfund’s Middle East Emergency Appeal and Real Change Guildford.

Donations to Tearfund’s Middle East Appeal will help local churches provide vital aid to those impacted by the humanitarian crisis. Donations to Real Change Guildford will help people to access the practical items and opportunities they need to build lives away from Guildford’s streets.

Check back for details on how to give to these organisations.

We’re also delighted that some of our small groups are making hampers for Guildford Besom! Through Besom, we are able to send hampers of lovely gifts to some of the most vulnerable houses in the area!

Extra Information:

The Christmas services due to be live streamed will be indicated above and available to watch at anytime after on our YouTube channel. We’d love you to join us!

Accessibility: All our services benefit from level access and a hearing loop.

Church Centre: The church centre will be closed between Thursday 21st December and Saturday 30th December inclusive. During this time, there will be an out of hours phone service for pastoral emergencies, details of which will be available in the 21st December edition of Happening.
